The Barb Mikulin Award was created in Alberta to honour a dedicated member of the CLXT profession. Barb was an active member in the ACCLXT and a contributing member to her community. She tirelessly volunteered for everything and was a shining example to all who knew her. She contributed countless hours to the growth of the CLXT profession in Alberta, expected great things and wanted to ensure that the profession achieved them. Barb was the definition of professionalism, and above all else, put her patients first, and treated all people – coworkers, employees, friends – with the utmost respect.

This award recognizes a CSCLXT member who demonstrates these qualities in a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist. The recipient will be announced at the end of CLXT Week. The Nominee for this award will:

  • Be a Class A Voting Member in good standing with the CSCLXT
  • Be an active participant in a provincial or national society or regulatory body by offering her/his time and efforts
  • Be someone who actively serves as a volunteer in their work and/or community
  • Be someone who helps promote the CLXT profession
  • Be a mentor or advocate for the profession

We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 Barb Mikulin Award is:

Donna McCook

Below are some of the nominees thoughts on Donna:

Donna McCook was my Tech II in Three Hills for over 35 years. She was an exemplary leader who was dedicated to her staff. She was a tireless role model and truly lead by example. Donna was an advocate of further education and encouraged us to never stop learning. Donna volunteered for the ACCXLT exam committee for several years and was on the ACCLXT board in her earlier years. Above being our Tech II, she also taught at RDP in the MLA program. She is a true teacher at heart and continues to teach

Donna was on the ACCLXT board in her earlier years and then went back on in the Exam Comittee. She volunteers in her community in multiple groups. As well Donna was on the TH Hospital Initiative to help with hospital fundraisers for a few years. Donna has been an amazing CLXT student preceptor and always encourages others to become preceptors.

Donna promotes and loves her profession. She continually encourages others in the Lab to join ACCLXT committees and thrive in the role. She has been the most engaged student preceptor and thrives on teaching. She continues to do so as she retired to casual CLXT I. She could of completely retired but was determined to learn Connect Care. She continues on as casual as she knows we are so short staffed and comes to work on her shifts full of energy and positivity!

Donna has volunteered several times on exam committees for the ACCLXT. She is a dedicated teacher and preceptor for all the CLXT students that have come through her lab over the years. She continues to bring her vast knowledge to our team in Three Hills even in her 'retirement' as she picks up several shifts and goes above and beyond each and every shift she works.

Each year Donna ensures that CLXT week is celebrated and promoted at her worksite. She is a champion of the profession and is proud to call herself a CLXT!

Congratulations Donna
